wedding plans are underway

It’s that time of year when brides and grooms are excitedly planning their wedding details.  Here is a portfolio of one wedding that I was so pleased to be invited to photograph.  The wedding was easy-going and friendly, just like the bride and groom.  Everyone was relaxed and it made for beautiful moments and lots of smiles and laughter and a few tears, or course!  After all, what’s a wedding without a few happy-tears? click to see a wedding in Paradise Once the portfolio opens, click on the right of the large image to advance. Greetings! As some of you know, I went to Copenhagen last August to exhibit my art with my artist collective, SEVEN.  Next month, our culminating exhibition for this project will be featured at The Craig Gallery in Dartmouth.  Our opening reception is on Wednesday, March 30th from 7-9pm.  I realize that it can be a challenge to motivate ourselves to venture out on a mid-week evening, but , if you’re in the area, it would mean the world to me to celebrate this big moment with friends and colleagues. Included below is the press release for the group, my artist …

get into your closet

Announcing a new partnership between Betty Ann Balcom and Deborah Nicholson: Betty Ann and I have combined our creative, organizing, systematizing talents to help get Valley residents into their closets in a beautiful, innovative and organized way.  Mention this blog post to receive a complimentary consultation with me.

sometimes you've gotta laugh

Grey.  Dull winter day. Dirty snow piled high around winter-weary cars all over the place. This is the location of my latest photo assignment.  My client’s words come to mind – “it isn’t a pretty building, but make it look as good as possible.”  I laugh.  Ten years ago, I would have become unstrung over how I could possibly make THIS building attractive.   Today, I’m as cool as a cucumber. As I scout the interior and exterior, fear that witnesses will have me shipped off to the funny farm is all that keeps me from laughing outloud as I turn …

thought-scapes

A snow day, here in the Valley… a great opportunity to indulge in some blogging! Here’s a sampling of my latest for SEVEN’s exhibit, UDVEKSLING/EXCHANGE for the Craig Gallery in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, April 2011. Artist Statement Mannequins and pedestrians share in the  exchange – with one another, with me, with the street.   Expressions and typography are read – punctuating the timescape of reflections – creating a placeless place where the exchange can exist. These are nearly complete 4″x4″ photo/paint collages.  These, with five others of mine, will be shown with the rest of the group’s thoughtscapes to create a …

oooooooo! snow day!

It’s an un-day. Snow day to me means a day of creative indulgence. A day apart from my tightly scheduled routine that I wouldn’t otherwise have – a free day! It’s play day!  A day to surf interior design for snippets of inspiration.  A day to dream and envision my own challenging open concept living/dining/kitchen space. Now that I’m studying interior design, I can certainly appreciate why this space is a challenge.  But all is good, I love living in this big awkward room with it’s many design challenges because I know that I’ll, one day, have the skills to apply my creative …

welcome to my closet…

Well… not really my closet.  But I designed it!   I’m an interior design student, who’s landed my first job – an opportunity to create a plan for a walk in closet.  I’ve been designing interiors since childhood, but this is my first assignment for someone besides myself and my first effort at designing with computer software.  Quite the learning curve!  But so exciting! The challenge:  to design a walk in for a resale home – planning for features that would appeal to a wide audience of potential home buyers, while keeping the budget for materials and labour within target. …

There's a new place for art that will make you swoon…

He’s passed the 30 mark, but looks 24.  He won a flower arranging competition when he was 11 years old and, at age 14, opened his first art gallery.  Now, he’s creating beauty and buzz on Hammonds Plains Road – bringing together an amazingly collection of talented Nova Scotian artists in a scrumptiously decorated old farm house. This gifted individual is Brandt Eisner, formerly of Argyle Fine Art in Halifax.  And, he’s the creative force behind Swoon. With a limited number of galleries in Nova Scotia, many of our very talented artists fail to be seen by the art-loving public.  …

Evangeline Transport

There are many reasons to love the Valley (the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, that is).  One for me, is the continual delight I feel in experiencing the warmth and sincerity that so many family-run businesses project in the way they do business.  This week, in spite of a major power outage causing most us to be disorganized and unshowered, the Corkum family, of Evangeline Transport in Port Williams, managed to pull a rabbit out of their family hat and posed for photos to meet a publication deadline.   They were great sports to brave and the cold in their company …
