Have your parents been trying to gift you their beloved antique table and chairs? Have you noticed those insanely great deals for traditional dining sets on social media markets? I know. I get it. You’re thinking that old fashioned stuff is going to totally mess up your decor aesthetic.
But, before you stick your nose in the air, consider that the quality, durability and longevity of an older set can’t be duplicated with today’s available materials and soaring manufacturing costs; unless you’re prepared to pay upwards of $6,000. Re-loving an old traditional set will save our planet. It won’t go into land fill, you’ll be saving trees, and you’ll be saying no to the toxic soup required to make you a brand new set.
The character and uniqueness of a traditional dining table will add personal style, pizzazz, and a bespoke look to your home.

An heirloom table paired with a modern chair or a traditional chair in front of a minimalist desk will add friendliness and livability to a contemporary decor.

Pairing comfortable, modern, upholstered chairs can make a formal dining set more conducive to hanging out – a cozy space for family and friends. Although we’re just at the beginning of my client’s kitchen design project, simply changing out their chairs has made this the place to linger after breakfast or enjoy board games with family.

Compare to the before photo.

Consumerism is waning and the days of one-stop shopping are over. For the reasons mentioned and more, we’re getting comfortable with mixing and matching old and new. We’re appreciating pieces that are worn and have patina and tell a story. All very good reasons to snap up that family hand-me-down or that Kijiji deal.

Wondering what to do with those old dining chairs? Perhaps you’ll find inspiration here…

Until next time….
